Happy Ratters

Happy Ratters is a fun, beginner-friendly dog sport where dogs search for protected rats hidden throughout urban-inspired courses. Dogs earn points by finding rats and completing course elements such as bridges and burrows, with standard classes and a variety of games available. Classes are held inside in AC in the summer, and outside in a barn in the cooler months.

Do you play Barnhunt and thinking about trying Happy Ratters?

Most Barnhunt dogs pick up Happy Ratters very quickly! Here are a few things to be aware of:

  • Rewarding with food is ALLOWED in the ring. There are penalties for dropped food.

  • There are a variety of games to play. You can read more about them in the rules.

  • Dogs cannot "rough" the rat - this could result in a fault or NQ.

  • Dogs can still earn points in a Standard run even if they don't do the burrow (tunnel in Barnhunt)

  • Barn Hunt titles can allow dogs to start at a higher Happy Ratters level: dogs with no Barn Hunt title start at Ratter, RATN or higher may start at Happy Ratter, and RATO or higher may start at Expert Ratter.
